ABOUT WCT

Providing Theatrical Experiences for Wilton’s Youth since 1976.

Wilton Children’s Theater is dedicated to providing an opportunity for Wilton children to participate in a variety of theatrical experiences. WCT children develop acting skills, stage presence, and self-esteem as well as enjoy the camaraderie of working with children of varying ages in a nurturing, enriching and creative environment.

Who We Are:

WCT is a not-for-profit organization run by its 22-person Board of Directors. It is independent, and is self-funded through registration fees, ticket and concessions sales and patron contributions.

WCT production costs are minimized through the combined, dedicated efforts of volunteer. Each Board Member is charged with a facet of the productions, with responsibilities including: set construction, costume implementation, make-up, props, publicity and production of the show. WCT Board Members are chosen from parent volunteers who enthusiastically give their time to the productions and express an interest in becoming more involved. The board meets monthly, year-round.

WCT hires professional directors, musical directors and choreographers for all productions. Our experienced professional staff brings out the most in every child, no matter what size their role in the production.

WCT provides scholarship/financial assistance on a case by case basis (please email info@wiltonchildenstheater.org). WCT provides internship opportunities to cast alumnae. These high school volunteers contribute much needed assistance for productions while gaining knowledge of theater craft, directing, lighting, and choreography.

History:

Wilton Children’s Theater began with the support of the Wilton Playshop in 1976. The organizers sponsored various types of productions using different age groups and varying numbers of children. Eventually, WCT moved to Middlebrook School and established its current identity, performing large-scale musicals with children in grades four through eight. Since the program demand was so great, WCT expanded to two productions per year in 1985.

In 1991, Summerstage, a program geared towards children in grades seven through ten, was added. WCT is delighted to provide programs that are designed to expose Wilton’s youth to live theater throughout the calendar year.

In 2010, Summerstage Jr!, a program geared towards children in grades three through six, was created to meet the demand for younger age children to participate.

In 2001, WCT was honored by the Wilton YMCA for outstanding community service and in 2011, we received the “I Love Wilton” Award for outstanding service to the community from the Chamber of Commerce.

In 2020, WCT has had to pivot to meet the challenges posed to theater and live productions by the global pandemic. Our regular school year shows have not been able to take place, but our creative and dedicated board has worked hard to provide theater and enrichment opportunities to Wilton’s youth, ranging from virtual productions and choirs to WCT TV, theater games evenings on Zoom, and small, in-person, live streamed productions.
