CODE OF CONDUCT + ATTENDANCE POLICY
Welcome to the cast! We have a maximum of 55 students and six hours per week to rehearse before putting on a play for the town of Wilton. To make the most of our rehearsal time, all actors must follow these rules of conduct:
BEHAVIOR: All participants, including parent and student volunteers and cast members are expected to follow instruction and to be respectful of each other and all persons involved with WCT, including professionals, volunteers and interns. Failure to do so will be a violation of the Discipline Policy (which has been provided to you).
Participants are not allowed to engage in any inappropriate behavior including, but not limited to: disruptive behavior, use of foul language, verbal or physical abuse, verbal or physical fighting, and possession or use of any illegal or dangerous items or substances.
The following are not allowed during rehearsals or shows: eating or drinking in auditorium (including gum), the use of cell phones or other electronic devices (with the exception of homework), abuse of school property, going outside (without staff supervision), leaving the premises, or being in any other part of Middlebrook apart from the auditorium (without staff supervision/permission). Electronic devices may be collected at the beginning of rehearsal to reduce disruption. Please bring homework or a book in case there is time when the professionals are working with other actors.
Cast members must come to rehearsal with script and pencil. If you forget your script, you will be asked to call home to have a parent deliver it. If you lose your script, there will be a replacement charge. You must memorize your lines within the appropriate amount of time as set by the Director. Failure to learn your lines could result in the reassignment of your role.
VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers are vital to the success of our show! Volunteers are expected to perform their assigned roles and attend dress week rehearsals and performances, as required. Volunteers should act as positive role models and refrain from inappropriate behavior or negative language. Volunteers may be asked to complete a background check if they are working in close proximity to the actors. Failure to perform required volunteer hours may result, at the discretion of WCT, in your child not being able to register for future WCT cast lotteries.
ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE: We care about all our actors’ safety! Actors are not to arrive at rehearsal before 4:25pm because Middlebrook does not allow children to be there unsupervised and WCT personnel do not typically arrive before 4:25. If you arrive early, please wait with your child in your car until staff arrives. Rehearsals will begin promptly at 4:30, please do not be late, since it can delay the entire cast. Producers take attendance, and will contact (most likely text) the parents if a child is not at rehearsal. Unless noted in the schedule, rehearsal ends at 6:30pm. Please be prompt for pick up as our dismissal parent volunteers (and their children) have to stay until the last child is collected. Text producers if something comes up and you will be late.
ABSENCES: We expect WCT to be each actor’s priority for the approximately ten weeks of rehearsals. Routine medical and dental appointments, vacations, sports or other activities are typically not acceptable excuses for tardiness, absence or leaving rehearsal early. If you will not be able to attend a rehearsal, will be late, or any other complication arises, you must notify the producers ahead of time. This is important because if an actor is not there, it can affect the entire rehearsal plan. With notice, our professionals may be able to adjust. If an absence is unexcused, the producers will determine whether the Discipline Policy must be invoked
