Wilton Children’s Theater (WCT) is an independent not-for-profit 501©3 organization providing the children of Wilton, Connecticut with a quality theatrical experience compared to none. Founded in 1976 with the support of the Wilton Playshop, WCT children develops acting skills, stage presence, and self-esteem in a nurturing, enriching and creative environment. Since our inception, WCT has grown to include four programs scheduled throughout the calendar year.
We offer two ten-week productions during the school-year for children
between grades 4th & 8th
Registration for both productions are held the first week of school at the end of August. Each production schedule requires participants to attend three two-hour after-school rehearsals per week culminating in three performances. Enrollment is limited to 55 children per production.
All children involved in the program must be Wilton residents regardless of the school they attend.
If more children register than can be accommodated by the program, a lottery is held. The lottery is a random selection of cast members designed to provide an even distribution of children by grade and gender.
Our summer workshop is for children entering grades 7th to 10th. Beginning at the end of school in June through the middle of July, rehearsals are five days a week for approximately six hours a day and culminating in two performances. Summerstage focuses on developing technique with minimal sets and costumes. Enrollment is limited to 50 children.
SummerstageJr! is for children entering grades 3rd to 6th and focuses on the teaching of stage direction, vocalization, and basic choreography. The program meets in the mornings, five days a week from the end of school in June through the middle of July. A musical production with minimal sets and costumes is held for all cast members’ families only on the last evening of the program. Enrollment for Summerstage Jr. is limited to 25 children.
Registration for Summerstage and SummerstageJr! are held in the spring.
WCT hires professional directors, musical directors, choreographers, set, lighting and sound designers for all productions. Our experienced professional staff brings out the most in every child, no matter what size their role in the production.
WCT provides scholarship/financial assistance on a case-by-case basis.
WCT provides internship opportunities to cast alumni. High school volunteers contribute much needed assistance for productions while gaining knowledge of theater craft, directing, lighting, and choreography. Students with a continuing concentration and study in theater return after high school and college as paid professionals in a position of their expertise.
Wilton Children’s Theater was recognized by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce in 2011 for an “I Love Wilton” Award for outstanding service to the community.
