History

Wilton Children’s Theater (WCT) is an independent, not-for-profit, 501c3 organization providing the children of Wilton, Connecticut with a quality theatrical experience second to none. Founded in 1976 with the support of the Wilton Playshop, WCT develops acting skills, stage presence, and self-esteem in a nurturing, enriching and creative environment. Since our inception, WCT has grown to include four programs scheduled throughout the calendar year.

 


School Year Productions

We offer two ten-week productions during the school-year for children in grades 4-8, and the tuition is $400. 

September-November (Fall production).  Rehearsals are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30-6:30 pm at Middlebrook School.

January-March (Winter Production).  Rehearsals are held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4:30-6:30 pm at Middlebrook School.

Each production schedule requires participants to attend three two-hour after-school rehearsals per week culminating in three performances. Enrollment is limited to 55 children per production.  Children can only choose one of the two shows, and registration is held once, in September.

All children involved in the program must be Wilton residents regardless of the school they attend.


The Lottery

If more children register than can be accommodated by the program, a lottery is held. The lottery is a random selection of cast members designed to provide an even distribution of children by grade and gender.


Summer Stage

The program is open to children entering grades 7-10, and the program fee is $500. Registration begins in the spring. The program will run for three weeks from end of June until the middle of July, with two performances. The show accommodates 55 cast members. If there are more enrollees than 55, a lottery will be held to determine who is enrolled. Other registrants may be placed on a wait list. Summer Stage Jr!

The program is open to children entering grades 3-6, and the program fee is $450. The three week program runs on weekdays from June until middle of July, with one performance.  If there are more registrants than cast spots, a lottery will be held to determine who is offered a place. Other registrants may be placed on a wait list. If there are open slots, additional registrants will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the Program starts.  The Program generally is a morning Program, from 9am - 12:30pm. Staff

WCT hires professional directors, musical directors, choreographers, set, lighting and sound designers for all productions. Our experienced professional staff brings out the most in every child, no matter what size their role in the production. See Professional Biographies here.

Internships

WCT provides internship opportunities to cast alumni. High school volunteers contribute much needed assistance for productions while gaining knowledge of theater craft, directing, lighting, and choreography. Students with a continuing concentration and study in theater return after high school and college as paid professionals in a position of their expertise.


Commendations

Wilton Children’s Theater was recognized by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce in 2011 for an “I Love Wilton” Award for outstanding service to the community.


Volunteer for Board

Thank you for your interest in the Wilton Children’s Theater (WCT) Board!  WCT is a group of hard working volunteers committed to providing an enriching theatrical experience to our young cast members.

All candidates should know the following:

  • We request a minimum two-year commitment. Generally, Board Members will hold the same position for two years before moving on to another job.

  • New Board Members often start out in production jobs, such as costumes or sets.

  • The Board is a twelve month per year commitment and attendance at monthly Board meetings is a required part of the position. We generally meet the first Monday of every month from 7:30 p.m. up to 10:00 p.m. Candidates should not have other commitments that regularly conflict with this meeting.

  • Board Members are expected to work on both shows in some capacity.

  • Board member children enrolled in the program are expected to attend all rehearsals to set the right example.

Interested candidates should write a letter stating:

  • Your interest in being on the WCT Board

  • What positions you are most interested in, and what experience/talents you feel you would bring to these positions

  • The gender of your children who would participate in WCT, and what grade they will be in the 2019/2020 School Year (please also note any younger siblings that might be interested when they are eligible)

  • Whether your children would want to be in the Fall or Winter show, and whether they are flexible about show selection.

Please note that flexibility in areas including job functions and Fall/Winter show enrollment does have a bearing on your application.

We accept letters of interest in volunteering for the Board anytime after your child has participated in a show until March 31. The new board starts its term the first week of June.
